Our Story

He makes rum barrels. She grows coffee.

They fell in love in 2010. We think you’ll love the results of what happened next.

Inspired by their two passions, drawing from years of expertise in their respective fields, they began aging coffee from the family farm in oak barrels where the highest quality Colombian rum once was aged. (Read more about the process here.) The result is a single-origin specialty coffee that adds the earthy flavors of oak and the sweet, caramel complexity of fine rum to the smooth and easy-drinking coffee Colombia is known for. It is a special coffee for special moments.

We call this coffee Quercus, after the scientific name for the Andean Oak used to build our rum barrels.  Quercus humboldtii is dubbed for famed explorer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, whose love of nature, sense of adventure, and respect for human dignity mirrors the values of our company.

In such a spirit, the Quercus name further reminds us of our company’s commitment to ensure that Quercus humboldtii and the Andean cloud forest will endure for future generations of coffee lovers.  For this reason, we invest a portion of all profits to projects that fight deforestation and promote sustainable coffee growing operations in the Andean region.

With love from our family to yours, we hope you’ll discover with us a new way to enjoy Colombian coffee.
